My beloved Mother, Carolyn O'Rourke, Cabryn Poodles, passed away on September 4, 2013. Each year since, I decided to Honor my Mother by joining Common Sense for Animals (CSA) in their annual walk to help raise money in her Memory. I am proud to say, that to date, I have helped raise over $35,000 for this incredible organization that was very dear to my mother's heart.

Even though my Mother is no longer with us, I am happy to say her work is still going strong! I've worked with the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine's Dr. Aguirre. He and his staff have worked hard to identify the genetic defect responsible for retinal disorder known as achromatopsia/retinal degeneration in Standard Poodles. Basically, this means that they've identified the mutation that is responsible for this autosomal recessive disorder that causes Day Blindness and eventually full Blindness in Standard Poodles. This wouldn't have happened without the support of the Poodle Club of America and the work of other participating Investigators (OptiGen LLC, Dr. Doreen Becker). Common Sense for Animals, currently houses and cares for over 150 companion pets. Their shelter is full and I am determined to raise as much money as possible to help the animals in my Mother's Honor. Common Sense for Animals is an animal welfare organization that promotes true animal welfare and operates a NO kill animal shelter.
